🔋 Set Up My Windows Laptop

What you should know about your computer

As a new member of the Octopus team, you will receive a brand new laptop to work with. 🤤 You’ll receive this by post, if you work remote, or on your first day in the office.

Keep in mind that your laptop is considered a company device. While we're not peeping over your shoulder, it's best to keep things strictly work-related on it, so that stuff doesn't get lost or mixed up. You will be expected to take good care of it, and if you ever decide to sail to new horizons, we'll need it back.

⚠️ If it gets lost or damaged, you’ll need to let us know immediately so we can remotely wipe it.

For more info on our guidelines check out this page here.

Ordering additional equipment

If you would like some additional equipment, such as keyboards, mouses or extra screens, you can request them from our Novatech Portal (check out this guide here).

Before beginning this process, please ensure that your Okta account has been activated. Ready? Great. Plug in and start up your new PC.

  1. Select your preferred language

  2. Select your country or region

  3. Select a Wifi network.

⚠️ When possible, please connect the laptop to an ethernet internet connection (by cable). If you’re based in our offices this can be done by connecting your PC device to one of the display monitors on every desk via the single USB-C cable. This will ensure a stable connection for the enrolment process.

  4. Now, enter your Okta login details. If your device has not been enrolled in our system yet, you will have the option to set up a personal account or a work/school account. Select Work or School and enter your Okta login details.

  5. You’ll be taken to an Okta sign in page, continue to enter your Okta account password.

  6. Verify with the Okta Verify app on your phone.

  7. Now wait while your account is set up. This process should take around 15 minutes.

If you receive an error like this, it probably means that your apps have not been installed correctly. Don’t worry, just click Continue anyway

  8. You can choose whether to set up face recognition for faster sign in, or skip for now and set it up later.

  9. You should now be taken to your dashboard.

You might receive a notification from Dell command | Update that looks like this:

If so, just close the window, you do not need to do this as your device might not have enough processing power. If the notification pops up repeatedly, just reach out to the TechOps team at techops-help@octopusenergy.group and they can assist you.

Congratulations on getting this far! Now, head over to this guide, to finish setting up your essential apps. 🐙
